dunwoody Dickens Day of Writing

All of Dr. Bell’s British Literature classes will be participating in the event, with the gifted/accel class submitting their work to UCSC for publication. However, if any student is interested in submitting their writing for publication, they are welcome to participate in the revision process. Interested students should get in touch with Dr. Bell prior to the event at: kathleen_bell@dekalbschoolsga.org or by coming to her room in P-12.

2nd, 3rd and 4th periods:

Monday, February 5: Introduction to 19th century London and Charles Dickens. Reading the first half of “Night Walks”.

Tuesday, February 6: Finishing “Night Walks”. Class discussion of the piece and introduction of writing prompts available for tomorrow.

Wednesday, February 7: Writing our first draft responses to “Night Walks” (90-minutes of writing time) and celebrating the birthday of Charles Dickens with lunch provided.

Thursday, February 8: Finalizing first drafts in additional 45 minutes of time and submitting first drafts. Any student wanting to submit theirs for mentor review will also submit a printed paper copy to Dr. Bell.

Friday, February 9: Essays will be edited by mentors at Dunwoody High School who will provide feedback for second revisions. Gifted/accel (and any student wishing to join) will receive their first draft back the week of February 12. Final submissions will be sent to UC Santa Cruz by February 16.
